Montauk is a real surf town, with beaches, slow pace, fresh air, and people who have slipped into that fantastic state of active relaxation…

3 days of surfing in first 5 days, we like this ratio. Montauk is a realk surf town gem, a sleepy little town where the entire life revolves around the ocean… and it has a SICHERHEIT wird in unserem Online Casinos gro? geschrieben. real surf bar with great food and fantastic sunsets: the Sunset Saloon.

The drive from the beach house to NYC displays the entire spectrum of civilisation, from down to earth relaxed slowness to concrete jungle and six lane highways in the city that never sleeps…

we have found waves

Day 2 we arrived at Tim’s “love shack”, a small little house hidden in the Montauk botanical wilderness. About one third of the house is a garage filled with 21 surfboards. The wave gods have been good to us and since we have been here we are surfing every day. Sienna and Robinson love the beach and the ocean, they have this permanent smile on their face until they fall over and crash.

yesterday we had a 2:30 wakeup time, which meant we had to take turn entertaining the kids in pitch dark with card games, madagascar 2, reading books, telling stories of the princess with the large nose, eating cheerios, changing Tshirts. When light finally arrived it was raining so hard that it was a challenge to get to the car door which is five meters away from our flat. But once you are in your wetsuit, rain is beautiful. And the crowds in the water seem to stay home…

This morning I discovered a new taste adventure when I was randomly mixing fruit, let’s call it Montauk fruit salad:

mix a 5 cm slice of large papaya, half a bowl of blueberries, one nectarine, one grapefruit, half a banana, with a touch lime and enjoy…

Day 1: Relaxation in the Hamptons

did we just dream the flights? are we in denmark? the Hamptons are quite spectacular, and resemble the Danish West Coast. Estuaries, sand dunes, ocean breeze, moisture with salt in the air – a place where one just cannot get around falling into a deep state of relaxation.

OK, the houses look a little different, particularly in size. Our first day was spent in true style, in a hideaway paradise in West Hampton, with our friends evelyn and bart. I tried stand-up paddleboarding for the first time and quite enjoyed it, today my body tells me that it was a new experience with a nice dose of “Muskelkater”. The camera survived its waterproof test in the pool yesterday. Robinson is now master of a smooth 360 on the trampoline. I lost in ping pong to Spencer in an exciting match that did not quite live up to the drama of Federer vs. Roddick.

The mix of big city life and relaxed ocean living here in NYC / Long Island seems quite appealing. Not sure if the recession has made this living model more realistic than before, but the size of the houses here suggests that one needs a large inheritance or have sold a risky startup to google. Heading East today, to Montauk, the little town furthest East on this pleasant island.
