RUAKAKA
On our way up North we stop at the East coast at Ruakaka, a small town just South of Whangarei, with a perfect camping spot for us right next to the lifesaving club….
Another day of playtime, still as exciting as on the first day, as every day the waves and the wind present a different playground for us…
Toys, boys, toys :)
New Year’s day
We pulled into the kite store of Sue and Dave in Ruakaka and were welcomed as if we were old friends. Sue and Dave are building best of a breed kite boards in their little production shed, which has all the professional equipment but also the personal touch each board gets from them.
They show us the whole production line and their latest boards, provoking an increasing desire to have one of these boards ourselves…. We got all the advise we needed to find the best kite spot and the best plan for New Year’s day.
A little while later we were launching our kite at a picture perfect sandy beach at Muir Road. The wind was 15-25 and gusty, but we were riding and having the kite smile back on our faces. Gerry was testing one of the Decay boards and felt the beauty of a custom made wooden board: it felt playful and alive instead of dead like a piece of stiff plastic.
The kids just love to play …
…alone, together, with other kids or us
..at the beach, in the water, …
…with all there is…
