A week of full Indulgence in Bunker Bay

We arrived in Perth on an early March afternoon after a 5 hour flight from Sydney. After picking up a cheap white car from Bayswater rental company (“No birds…”), we drove down to Bunker Bay, at the Northern tip of the Margaret River peninsula, very near Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. It sparkled in beautiful sunshine in its full length and there was not a soul to be found on the beach. We were invited to the one week reunion of the Duffy family.
We found ourselves in a large beautiful beachfront house with Greg and Lil from Sydney with their 2 kids, Katherine and Jarrod and their 2 boys, Glenice and Stan, Alex from Austria, Sophia from Sweden, Jim and Anna from Greece/Sydney, Jason from many places in this world … and more friends who would come and go during the next days.
The setting is spectacular. We have our more or less private bay with sandy beach and turquoise water, which features its own little surf break in the center, “The Farm”, a perfect spot on Southerly winds and large swells.
Very quickly the kids dive into their own world jumping on the trampoline, flying on the flying fox, surfing the waves, exploring the beach or sliding down Jarrod’s waterslide.

KID\’s spa session

Our days are filled with pure pleasures. I love cooking together, even more when Jason the mad chef arrives and gets us all into tasty heaven with his wonderful cooking.

From risotto with scallops and king prawns to surf and turf steak with salads and grilled vegetable, every day brought new culinary surprises and delights.
Jason also tried to give us an idea about the wonderful wines of Australia by doing a blind wine tasting with 12 red wines, mostly Shirazes from 1998 to 2000.

In the mornings Jason welcomed us with fresh juice, eggs Benedict, omelette, etc., what a wonderful start into a day of wine tasting, beach sessions, swimming in the pool or relaxing in the spa.
In the evenings our three-course dinners were typically accompanied by a seemingly never-ending supply of amazing wines which the crew had tasted during their day trip to one of the over 100 wineries in this region.

This seemed to spur the appetite for the nightly international table tennis tournament, with the final typically scheduled between 2 and 3 am.

Katherine thank you - this week was a fantastic idea!
